Departmental ImpactNational/International participation in policy making to end poverty2024A previous ACIAR small research activity (SRA) entitled "Smallholder goat value chains in Pakistan; challenges and research opportunities" described the goat (and sheep) production systems throughout the value chain in Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan. From the SRA, it was clear that poor supply (quantity, quality and consistency) of animals from farms is the major restriction in many value chains. Key factors behind this poor supply were ill thrift, mortality of young animals, poor nutrition and health of adult stock. In this context, As per the vision of Worthy Vice-Chancellor, Meritorious Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younus (DLA.SI), Dairy Society CVAS and department of animal sciences, CVAS Jhang organized a day-long hands-on training Workshop on Capacity building training on the body condition score (BCS) in small ruminants to record the health status of the animals and to check the nutritional requirements of the small ruminants, on Wednesday, May 08, 2024, at 10.00 AM in an effort to strengthen the knowledge base of undergraduate and postgraduate students, farmers on the above-mentioned topic. Dr Angus Campbell from university of Melbourne Australia delivered online talk on the topic entitled "COVID 19 Impact on Livestock in Punjab and Sindh. Director RCCIB Dr Wajid Arshad also grace the occasion and talk about worskshop. Potent young-entrepreneur produced by UVAS (Sub campus CVAS); Dr Muhammad Atta ul Zia (Senior Area Advisor) delivered his talk on body condition scoring in small ruminants and its practical demonstration at small ruminant farm LRC to motivate the students. Principal CVAS Jhang and Chairman Dept.
