Prof. Dr. Iahtasham Khan stands as a trailblazing figure in the annals of CVAS, Jhang (university sub campus), having been the inaugural faculty member to transition from UVAS (parent university). In 2006, he spearheaded the introduction of DVM classes and undertook administrative responsibilities. Alongside the dedicated administrative staff, he orchestrated the maiden DVM admissions at RCCSC, Jhang (now RCCIB, Jhang), notwithstanding the absence of a dedicated campus.
Remarkably, he conducted Physiology classes in a makeshift kitchen within a rented building in Satellite Town Jhang. Dr. Khan's unwavering dedication during the fledgling stages of the college marked him as one of its pioneering figures. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the first in-service veterinarian from Pakistan to secure the prestigious Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Hi-Tech Scholarship, culminating in a PhD from the esteemed Free University Berlin, guided by Prof. Lothar Wieler, who presently presides over the Robert Koch Institute in Germany.
Dr. Khan successfully shepherded three significant research endeavors in collaboration with the Federal German Foreign Office and the World Organization for Animal Health, garnering funding in the amounts of €372,000, €480,000, and €80,974 respectively. He was instrumental in establishing a cutting-edge biosafety level II lplus aboratory at CVAS Jhang, funded through his project, and accredited by UVAS ORIC for research on zoonotic pathogens. This facility was inaugurated by the esteemed Vice-Chancellor.
In 2024, Dr. Khan secured a research grant of €50,000 from the Yak-Kamel Stiftung in Germany as a principal investigator and 1300000/- RMB from ANSO China as a Co-PI, further affirming his prowess in the research domain. Noteworthy is his more than two-decade-long commitment to the welfare of hostel residents, serving as hostel warden since his inception as a lecturer, progressing to his current role as Professor.
Currently in completed his 2nd tenure as Chairman of the Department of Clinical Sciences at CVAS, Jhang, Dr. Khan has also shouldered additional responsibilities as Hostel Warden (10 Years), Principal Officer of Administration and Finance, as well as Deputy Registrar since 2020.
Dr. Khan's academic and research contributions are nothing short of prolific, with a repertoire of over 100 publications in high-impact factor journals, a substantial portion stemming from his project work. Notably, approximately 70% of these publications find their home in journals based in the USA, UK, and EU. Moreover, over 20 students have completed their postgraduate studies (MPhil and PhD) under his guidance, while five faculty members have undertaken extensive training at the OIE reference lab in Germany through his initiatives.
Under his leadership, CVAS, Jhang has hosted three national and one international training workshops. His groundbreaking work has earned him acclaim from institutions such as the OIE, Federal German Foreign Office, the Chairman of the IDB, and the esteemed Vice-Chancellor, who featured his newly established lab in five national newspapers.
With a decade-long association with OIE, Dr. Khan recently achieved a milestone as his collaborative research with OIE, FLI, and CVAS led to the commercialization of an ELISA diagnostic kit for glanders by the renowned diagnostics company, ID Vet France, in 2021. His research findings have been showcased in numerous international events, earning him the prestigious Melinda and Gates award as an accomplished young researcher. Dr. Khan's collaborative spirit and exceptional contributions have not gone unnoticed, as he has received letters of commendation from all three Principals of CVAS, Jhang.
In 2022, he was lauded by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasim Ahmad of UVAS for his invaluable contributions to the institution, which were made without any monetary gain. This recognition stands as a testament to Dr. Khan's selfless dedication to the betterment of UVAS. The pinnacle of his achievements was marked in 2023, when he secured the coveted International Postdoc Scholarship to Cornell University, USA, sponsored by the Punjab Higher Education Commission. This scholarship attests to his exceptional standing in the academic community.
Vice Chancellor assigned the duty to Prof Khan as a Prinicpal, CVAS, Jhang dated 08.03.2024. He earned the honor of appointment as the guest academic position at University of Melbourne dated 03.06.2024. Dr Khan received certificate of achievement from President Islamic Development Bank (IDB), KSA.
