Biography

A soul with wisdom, strength and liveliness. Muawuz Ijaz is rendering his services as Lecturer at Meat Technology Section, Department of Animal Sciences. Earlier, he has graduated as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from UVAS in 2015 and then completed his Master of Philosophy in Meat Science and Technology from the same University in 2017. Then he has won GSCAAS scholarship and got his PhD degree in Meat Science and Nutrition from Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing in 2020. His master’s research was aimed to improve the meat quality attributes by optimizing the post-slaughter factors. For that purpose he checked the “Influence of animal age, post-slaughter chilling rate and ageing time on meat quality characteristics of young cattle and buffalo” and proposed some helpful guidelines for industry. In doctoral research, he worked on Dark Firm Dry (DFD) beef, which is a pronounced meat quality defect, and explored the biochemical mechanisms involved in formation of DFD using proteomics, protein phosphorylation, metabolomics and western blotting techniques. Specifically, his PhD research project was entitled “Identification of potential biomarkers underlying the quality development of DFD beef”. In near future, he has the dream to explore the concealed potential of beef industry of Pakistan by applying the innovative techniques and fetching the by-product value addition in meat sector in order to minimize meat losses and compete globally. Previously as course instructor, he has trained the industry butchers with standard practices of meat technology and hygiene measures on slaughtering-line. As research associate in department of Meat Science & Technology (UVAS), he played a major role in start-up and operations of a “Model Meat Supply Chain, From Farm to Retailer in Lahore.
