Biography

Dr. Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman, is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore-Pakistan since 2009. He has completed his MSc and M.Phil in Zoology at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad-Pakistan and received his Ph.D. in Fisheries & Aquaculture from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore-Pakistan. Dr. Muhammad Hafeez-ur-Rehman worked on the Reproductive Biology and Induced Spawning of Channa marulius in captivity with manipulation of various feeding and hormonal treatments. In breeding trials, Ovaprim combined with fresh pituitary gland and /or other hormone analogues, fish spawned successfully for the first time in the history of fisheries and aquaculture in Pakistan. His findings will be helpful for fish farmers, fish hatchery mangers and fish conservation strategy programs in spawning of valuable fish and its stock replenishment programs in future. Besides, these research also working on fish processing, value addition and quality assurance of commercial important fish species of Pakistan. He has supervised 20 undergraduate and 04 postgraduate researchers. He has authored and co-authored over 35 research articles, a book chapter and presented papers in various conferences. He developed and assisted development projects “Establishment of Fisheries Research and Training Centre and Strengthening of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, for Ravi Campus. He was involved in the preparation of curricula for BS (Hons.), M. Phil/Ph.D. Fisheries & Aquaculture, BS, M. Phil/Ph.D. Zoology, MSc. Wetlands Management, M.Sc. Zoology, National Curriculum for Fresh Water Biology and Fisheries of BS and M.Phil/Ph.D. under Higher Education Commission, and short term training courses for farmers, etc. He received a certificate of excellence “Galaxies of who’s who in Pakistan XIXth Star Awards 2008 on outstanding achievement in the field of Agriculture (Fisheries and Aquaculture) from Pakistan Academy of Science. He is a member of various professional and statutory bodies of the University, National, International level. Dr. Hafeez attended international training course on Mariculture Technology for Developing Countries at Fujian Institute of Oceanography, Xiamen China and Aquaculture Wales, University of Wales, Swansea, UK under HEC-BC JHELP. The national visits include Salt Range Wetlands Complex (SRWC), Makran Coast Wetland Complex (MCWC), for awareness campaign to the local community of management of different saltwater lakes. Furthermore, to study the research and training facilities for fisheries and aquaculture of Sindh and Balochistan province, trout culture facilities of Azad Jamu & Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, under the Inter-provincial exchange students delegate HEC.
