Biography

Dr. Muhammad Usman Mehmood is working as lecturer in the Department of Theriogenology. He has been engaged with the Department since 2011. He graduated as DVM (2009). He pursued his M. Phil on the subject of Theriogenology (UVAS) under the supervision of Dr. Mian Abdul Sattar. His work during M. Phil was on “Effect of estradiol benzoate on estrus intensity, estrus response and fertility in CIDR treated crossbred heifers”. He received merit scholarship 2010-2011 on a competitive basis by State Bank of Pakistan for his M.Phil study. The abstract of the former research article is published in JAM (the Joint Annual Meeting ASAS-ADSA Indianapolis US, 2013) recently. His thesis was part and parcel of a research project entitled “New Approaches of Estrus Synchronization in Dairy Animals”. He has also honored to acquire first position in Punjab Public Service Commission Examination on buffalo research institute seats. He is a member of the Society for Animal Reproduction of Pakistan (SARP), Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council (PVMC) and the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) 2013 (An International Dairy Science Association). It’s an honor that he has been invited by “European Society of Domestic Animal Reproduction, Premier ADSA-ASAS Joint Annual Meeting and Cochran Fellowship Program USDA” as a nominee from Pakistan. More recently, he has submitted a research grant in Pakistan Agriculture and Research Board (2013) entitled “Effect of Fat Supplementation on Productive and Reproductive Performance in Postpartum Buffaloes”. His main responsibilities are teaching of Theriogenology courses (undergraduate and postgraduate), clinical case handling, research and farm extension services. He is a major supervisor of 2 students. He has been part of the organizing committee of many national/international conferences, workshops and seminars. He is one of the most active member of extension advisory services UVAS 24/7. He has been author of research articles.

Area of Interest

Equine reproduction, Synchronization, Reproductive Ultrasonography (Small ruminants, large ruminants, especially in Equine family), Superovulation in mice and bovines.
