Biography

Professor  Dr. Muhammad Ovais Omer is currently serving as Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at UVAS, marking his third tenure of three years. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, an M.Sc. (Hons.) in Veterinary Pharmacology from the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore (affiliated with the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad-Pakistan), and a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore, Pakistan.

Professional Experience

Dr. Ovais has accumulated over 29 years of experience in teaching, research, and administration. He played a key role in the committee that upgraded the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore-Pakistan, and developed the first PC-I of University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS). His supervision extends to over 200 MPhil and 08 PhD students, and he has published more than 50 research papers in esteemed international scientific journals and extension articles in National press.

Contributions and Recognitions

Dr. Ovais has served on numerous technical bodies at UVAS, such as the advance study and research board, academic council, and student advisory committees. He has also been an external examiner for several universities and served on the selection boards of other institutions. His efforts in upgrading undergraduate and postgraduate laboratories during his first tenure as Chairman were notable, alongside the renovation of lecture and seminar rooms and the development of a new postgraduate laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment.

International Experience and Future Goals

Dr. Ovais has received scientific training in South Korea, Turkiye, NIBGE, HEC, and Makkah Mukarramah. His accolades include a Certificate of Merit and the Star Laureate Award in 2009. He has previously served as an Assistant Professor at Umm Al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia. He is committed to establishing a toxicology laboratory in his department to further advance research and educational capabilities.

Additional Roles and Achievements

Dr. Ovais has held various administrative roles including:

  • Member/Secretary of the Discipline Committee at UVAS

He was the first Associate Senior Tutor and the General Secretary of the UVAS Alumni Association, where he remains a life member. Dr. Ovais has traveled to Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Turkiye, gaining technical expertise in teaching and research techniques. His dedication continues to shape the future of pharmacology and toxicology through his leadership and vision for the department.
