National/International participation in policy making to end poverty

Department of Dairy Technology at the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences plays a pivotal role in national and international poverty reduction efforts. Through research, education, and policy advocacy, it contributes to the development of dairy sector policies that boost small-scale farmers' income, create employment opportunities, and enhance food security. By promoting sustainable practices and collaborating with global partners, the department ensures that its contributions extend beyond national borders, making a meaningful impact on ending poverty worldwide.

 

2022

The dairy industry is concerned with the production, cost, and quality of milk and value-added milk products. The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is always looking for new ways to increase the return on investment of commercial dairy farms and the livelihood of small-scale dairy farmers. This can only be accomplished by involving all stakeholders, including business and academia, in problem identification and reflection, as well as designing an autonomous solution. UVAS, in partnership with Punjab's Livestock and Dairy Development Department, has launched a project titled Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on the Milk Value Chain, staffed by highly motivated, qualified, and skilled faculty. The project was officially launched on November 24, 2021 at the Veterinary Academy, UVAS City Campus Lahore.

 

2021

Department of Dairy Technology UVAS is working on project Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers and Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain funded by LnDD Government of Punjab. These intensive training program have been aimed to train veterinary professional, dairy farmers and industry stakeholders on dairy value chain with an objectives.

  1. To drive the opportunity among dairy stakeholders for milk value chain.
  2. To advocate knowledge of advance technologies and machinery for milk value addition and achieve cutting edge advantage.
  3. Capacity building on milk processing methodologies for improving dairy products quality and shelf life.
  4. To strenghthen capabilities of veterinary professional, dairy farmers and industry stakeholders regarding modalities and requirements of certifications for quality assurance of milk product.
