Seminar on Dairy Housing Systems, Modern Technologies & Methane Mitigation at UVAS Jhang

JHANG – In a significant effort to address modern challenges in livestock farming, the CVAS Dairy Club organized an academic seminar focused on innovative housing systems and methane mitigation at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Jhang Campus, on 3rd March 2026

Held under the administrative supervision of Prof. Dr. Rana Muhammad Younus, Vice Chancellor of UVAS, and Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science.

The seminar, titled “Different Housing Systems and Modern Dairy Technologies with Special Focus on Methane Mitigation in the Livestock Sector,” served as a platform to bridge the gap between academic research and practical farm application.

Dr. Zahid Farooq Delivers Keynote on Methane Mitigation
The seminar’s technical session was highlighted by an expert lecture from Dr. Muhammad Zahid Farooq, who serves as the Convener of the CVAS Dairy Club. In his address, titled "Different Housing Systems and Modern Dairy Technologies with Special Focus on Methane Mitigation," Dr. Farooq presented a comprehensive overview of how innovative housing designs can directly influence a farm's carbon footprint. He elaborated on specific nutritional and management strategies to reduce enteric methane emissions, urging the future veterinarians in attendance to prioritize environmental sustainability alongside productivity.

Expert Insights on Industry Challenges
Progressive farmer Mr. Amir Gill, who served as the Guest Speaker, shared practical insights from the field, emphasizing how modern technology can be adapted to local farming conditions. He highlighted the economic benefits of investing in advanced housing systems for small and large-scale farmers alike.

The academic perspective was robustly represented by Professor Dr. Arfan Zaman and Professor Dr. Ehtesham ul Haq, who delved into the environmental impacts of livestock farming. Their presentations focused on cutting-edge strategies to reduce enteric methane emissions—a critical step toward ensuring that Pakistan’s livestock sector meets global sustainability standards.

Organizational Excellence
Dr. Syed Aun Muhammad Shah, Associate Senior Tutor, lauded the efforts of the student organizers for coordinating a technically rich program. The session was convened by Dr. Muhammad Zahid Farooq, who emphasized the Dairy Club’s commitment to fostering a learning environment that extends beyond textbooks.

In recognition of their valuable contributions to the academic discourse, participation certificates were formally awarded to the Guest Speaker, Mr. Amir Gill, as well as to the distinguished faculty members.
