Biography

Dr. Hafiz Awais Nawaz, has been working as lecturer of Pharmaceutics at Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS), University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan since October 2018. He got Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D) degree from University of the Punjab and Masters of Philosophy (M. Phil) degree in Pharmaceutics from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences. He went to Germany in 2014 and completed his doctoral degree in October 2018 from Leipzig University, Leipzig, Germany.
He started his professional career in 2007 as Community Pharmacist and served at Fazal Din Pharma Plus, Jail Road Lahore for almost 15 months. During his service, he remained involved in Patient counselling and drug information, human resource management, controlled drug dispensing and prescription handling etc. In 2008 he joined Children’s Hospital & the Institute of Child Health, Lahore, Pakistan as Hospital Pharmacist and performed his duties for 6 months. During his stay he was well trained in aseptic dispensing and extemporaneous preparation services, training of apprentice pharmacists and management of human resources and materials. He was appointed as lecturer in IPS w. e. f., October 17th, 2008 and was the part of pioneer team in the establishment of new institute. He has been actively involved in teaching of undergraduate pharmacy students to align the undergraduate theory and practical training with the international trends in practice, research and teaching of pharmacy subjects. He is also a part of Bioequivalence Study Center (BeSt Center), UVAS, Lahore. He is skilful in conducting clinical trials for Bioequivalence studies and quantification of drugs in plasma through HPLC.
During his M. Phil research he analyzed and compared the pharmacokinetics of candesartan cilexetil in healthy male and female volunteers in Pakistan. The area of research in doctoral degree was development and characterization of reactive oligomers. The comprehensive characterization techniques include nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and rheology. These reactive oligomers can be utilized to cross-link biomacromolecules e.g., gelatin and fabricate cross-linked matrices. Oligomer cross-linked gelatin based matrices have potential applications in biomedical and regenerative sciences.

Areas of Interest:

  • Oligomer synthesis
  • Characterization of polymers through titrations, GPC, NMR (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR), MALDI-TOF MS
  • Fabrication of polymer cross-linked hydrogels
  • Rheological characterization of cross-linked matrices
  • In vitro characterization of cell-containing cross-linked matrices
