Biography:

Dr. Tahir Mehmood earned his PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology from Department of Translational medicine and neurogenetics from Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC), University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg France. During his PhD, Dr. Mehmood has got opportunity to present his research work at many International forums in UK, Germany, Malaysia as well as in France. Dr. Mehmood have more than 14 years of teaching and research experience including more than 7 year post PhD experience at university level inland and abroad.  The main area of his research interests includes:  To isolate and develop plant-based drugs/bioactive peptides/nutraceuticals etc. with potential as anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, other pharmacological activities and Production of Biofuels by using Biotechnology and non-conventional/underutilized or non-food sources of vegetables oils.
In addition to involvement in teaching and research, Dr. Mehmood, as a supervisor, produce 4 MSc, 37 MPhil students, and currently 2 MPhil and 3 PhD students are working under his supervision. Dr. Mehmood published around 50 papers with an overall current Impact Factor is around 55 and Citations is more than 225 to his credit.  Moreover, Dr. Mehmood have been involved as a resource person/organizer in many training workshops as well as attended several training courses /workshops in land and abroad.
Dr. Mehmood also published one Book chapter with international publisher and two local practical books.  On the basis of his achievements and significant publication, the University of Sargodha awarded publication incentive 2016, 2017 and 2018.  The Higher Education Commission (HEC), of Pakistan also enlisted him as HEC Approved Supervisor for indigenous PhD program since 2012.

Brief Statement of Research Interests:

  1. To evaluate the potential activity of plant extracted bio-active compounds against anti- diabetic, anti-aging, antiviral and explore their mechanism in molecular mechanism etc.
  2. To isolate and develop plant-based drugs/bioactive peptides/nutraceuticals etc. with potential antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer attributes leading to value- addition through product development.
  3. Evaluation of antioxidants in indigenous plants and agricultural wastes (Extraction, purification/ isolation, antioxidant activity, characterization and structural elucidation, applications/High-Value Components   and   Development,   Functional   Foods   and Nutraceutical  etc.).
  4. Isolation, Characterization and biological activities of essential oils/Vegetable oil
  5. Production of Biofuels by using Biotechnology and non-conventional/underutilized or non-food sources of vegetables oils.
  6. To study the toxic effects of pesticides on animal and human health.
