DESCRIPTION:

  • An evergreen tree 5-15 m high with grayish brown smooth bark
  • Leaves pale-yellow brown, elliptic oblong or lanceolate, acuminate
  • Flowers bracteolate ellipsoid
  • Fruits ovoid, subglobose

PART USED:

  • Seeds kernels

TASTE:

  • Bitter

PERIOD OF OCCURRENCE:

  • The tree bears fruits at the age of 6-7 years and remains productive for 30-40 years.

PROCEDURE & TIME OF COLLECTION:

  • The fruits are harvested by means of barb on a long stick. The seeds are separated and dried for 3-6 weeks first in the sun and then slow fire in grating; seeds are cracked to remove kernels
