CAUSE

Necrotoxic and hemolytic beta-toxin produced by Clostridium haemolyticum a soil-borne anaerobe, growing in a necrotic infarct in the liver.

SYMPTOMS

Toxemia, fever. hemoglobinuria, and jaundice; high case fatality.

TREATMENT

Antibiotics and blood transfusion.
