Biography

Dr. Sehrish Sadia is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan.  She got M.Sc. and M. Phil. degrees in Botany from Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi and Ph.D. Botany from Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China. She got annual prize of excellent international student in Beijing normal University, China, twice in Ph.D. duration. She was also nominated for excellent foreign student of Chinese Scholarship Council in 2015 based on academic and research activities. During M. Phil. she carried out her research in National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), Islamabad in the field of weed management in crops (allelopathy). In Ph.D. research project she dealt with quantitative plant ecology (by using different ecological and statistical software i.e. WINTWINS, CANOCO, PAST, BIODIVERSITY, F-DIVERSITY, OriginPro, SPSS and R) and phytochemical fingerprinting (Thin layer chromatography, High performance liquid chromatography) of medicinal plants. This work concluded with the strategies for plant conservation, quality control of herbal medicine and development of methodological protocol for multivariate quantitative analysis of plant communities. Before joining UVAS, she worked as Assistant Professor (IPFP) in Department of Botany, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore. During IPFP, she completed HEC funded SRGP project focusing ecological and molecular approach to indicator species of plant communities in hilly areas of Salt Range, Punjab. Current focus of her research is on quantitative ecology and eco-physiology of plants.

Areas of Interest

  • Quantitative ecology/plant community ecology
  • Eco-physiology of plants
  • Phytochemical fingerprinting
  • DNA fingerprinting of plants
  • Genetic variation in plants along changing environments
