Biography:

Dr. Mamoona Chaudhry is Associate Professor in the Dept. of Epidemiology and Public Health, UVAS, Lahore since 2006. She was awarded HEC overseas scholarship (10%) in 2007 to pursue for PhD at University of Edinburgh, UK. She completed her PhD in the subject of Epidemiology and Public Health from The University of Edinburgh Medical School, Division of Infection and Pathway Medicine, UoE, UK. She has a background of infectious disease epidemiology and public health. She is heading a disease surveillance laboratory equipped with facilities to conduct diagnosis of various diseases. Her research focuses on diseases at Human-Animal Interface. She has international collaboration and have developed international collaborative projects aiming to enhance the competences and capacity building in developing countries. She has published over 30 research articles on epidemiology, surveillance, disease investigation and descriptive studies of various zoonotic and infectious diseases. She has been awarded various competitive grants and travel fellowships by various funding agencies both nationally and internationally. She is currently working on Influenza, Zoonotic TB and Rabies and running projects on different topics in collaboration with USA; UK Australian scientists.  She is supervising MPhil and PhD student. She is member of American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, International Society of Infectious Diseases, One Health Hub, Young EPIZONE and One Health Initiative. She is also member of editorial board of Zagazig Veterinary Journal, Egypt and journal referee for Plos One, TAHP, Journal of Food Science, Vector Borne and Zoonotic Diseases and Frontiers in Microbiology, JAPS, and PVJ.

Area of interest:

Her research focuses on epidemiology of important zoonotic and infectious diseases of veterinary and public health importance. These includes: Avian and human influenza, Dengue, CCHF, Rabies, Leishmaniasis, Food borne pathogens, Bovine Tuberculosis, Newcastle Disease, Foot & Mouth Disease etc. She is interested to develop different surveillance strategies for the early detection of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases of humans and animals in lower- and Middle-income countries like Pakistan; conducting outbreak investigations of various animal diseases and using that model for human, identifying risk factors of diseases, conducting spatio-temporal analysis of disease spread and control and prevention strategies.
