A. The dairy industry is important sector of Pakistan. Pakistan is 4th largest milk producing country in the world. Only 3-4% is processed properly of total milk production and rest is consumed as raw milk and used in manufacturing of indigenous dairy products. Therefore, there is a great potential in dairy sector for product development and innovation especially for young dairy technologist.

A. Dairy Technology graduates have hands on experience in fluid milk processing, cheese manufacturing, yoghurt, yoghurt drinks, flavored milks and traditional dairy products.

A. Well equipped with basic knowledge of milk chemistry, microbiology, processing and preservation. Practical exposure and some experience in Dairy Industry.
Q 11. What is the scope of Dairy Technology?
A. Pakistan is an Agriculture country. It has a large number of Livestock population. Milk is the most important commodity among all foods. Dairy Technology is a vast field, dealing with milk and a wide range of milk products.
Q 12. What kind of job facilities is available after completion of degree?
A. In Dairy Industry, in teaching institutes, research laboratories, in food industry, in various NGOs (research and development sections) and government organizations. Own dairy farm or business can be started/managed and provide job to other technologists.

A. About 60% students got job, provides services to dairy industry some are also engaged in further studies (M.Phil Food Science, Dairy Technology).

A. University has signed various MOUs with Dairy industry, collaboration on different sites. Internship of students is arranged by the University in Dairy Industry in this way students also get intimated with industry people.
Q 15. What is your Faculty Status?
A. Faculty is highly qualified. Four members are PhD, while other three are in pipeline. Most of them are Foreign trained in different fields of Dairy Science and Technology.
Q 16. What are the existing Laboratory facilities?
A. Two fully equipped Labs for undergraduates and post graduate students are fully functional. One for Dairy Chemistry, second is for Dairy Microbiology an additional lab. is available at Dairy Training and Development Ceter.
Q 17. Does Department have milk processing facility at UVAS?
A. Department has installed 2000 litres/ hr pasteurized milk processing plant which is financed by HEC, Islamabad. Presently plant is used for the practical training of Dairy technology students, dairy industry, and other stake holders.
Q 18. What are different kinds of dairy products?
A. The plant has the provision to manufacture various value added dairy products such as yoghurt, ice cream, butter and cheese, etc. Other traditional dairy products can also be manufactured.
Q 19. What are the health benefits of yoghurt?
A. Yoghurt is highly assumable dairy product. Which is nutritious, easily digested by stomach, and releases stomach pain and various disorders.
Q 20. Why milk is important for growing children, adults and for old age people?
A. It has all the basic and necessary nutrients in balanced form. It contains bone forming Calcium and Phosphorus, energy providing fats and carbohydrates. It saves from Osteoporosis in old age.
Q 21. What is the difference between raw/fresh milk and processed milk?
A. Raw milk may contain some Pathogenic microorganisms which can cause health hazard if not heated properly. Whereas Pasteurized milk is free from all these pathogenic or disease producing microorganisms.
Q 22. What are the health benefits of Pasteurization of milk? And why is it necessary?
A. Pasteurization is a heat treatment below boiling point of milk at certain temperatures for a definite period of time to kill all the pathogenic microorganisms. So pasteurized milk is safe to drink for all, it’s healthy and nutritious.

A. The dairy sector is increasing rapidly in Pakistan. There is huge potential for Dairy graduate to grasp the jobs and and placement in private sector. This will reduce the unemployment and increase the prosperity in Pakistan.
