UVAS arranges Dairy Forum-2 on Achieving Food Security through Climate Resilient Sustainable Dairy Value Chain

LAHORE (24-05-23): The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore arranged Dairy Forum-2 with the theme “Achieving Food Security through Climate Resilient Sustainable Dairy Value Chain” on Wednesday at a local hotel under its project ‘Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers & Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain’.

Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Muhammad Masoud Anwar chaired the forum, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor University of Education Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, DG Punjab Food Authority Raja Jahangir Anwar, Director Corporate Affairs & Agri Business Friesland Campina Engro Pakistan Syed Saud Ahmed Pasha, Member Planning and Development Punjab Aslam Javed, dairy farmers and professionals, researchers, students, industry representatives and livestock officials were present.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary livestock said that the Livestock and Dairy Development Department is working on breed improvement, genetics, productivity enhancement, capacity building of farmers and strengthening of veterinary services. He said that capacity building of dairy farmers & industry stakeholders on milk value chain of UVAS addressed the main issues of dairy sector. He lauded the role of UVAS in the development of livestock department/sector and providing policy guideline. He said that we can’t progress without controlling foot and mouth disease.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad spoke about the Capacity Building of Dairy Farmers & Industry Stakeholders on Milk Value Chain project of UVAS, how it was conceived and its impact on promotion and development of dairy sector and the national economy. He said that although this projecting is completing in June 2023 yet the university aims to initiate such projects in meat and poultry sectors also.

Vice Chancellor University of Education Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha spoke about significance of dairy development and called for replicating it many times across the Punjab province. DG Punjab Food Authority Raja Jahangir Anwar about importance of regulatory framework for dairy sector and Coordinator Punjab SDGs Jhang Muhammad Azam Ali about Sustainable Development Goals in Dairy Business. Project Director Dr Muhammad Junaid briefed the forum audience on achievements of the Capacity Building Project on Milk Value Chain during 2021-2023. Dairy farmers shared their success stories with the forum audience. Member Planning and Development Punjab Aslam Javed also spoke on the occasion. Livestock farmers and dairy professionals, researchers, academicians and students attended the dairy forum.
