UVAS holds joint session reference on retirement of Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub

LAHORE (28-04-23): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised a joint session reference in the honor of Renowned Veterinarian/Microbiologist/Director Institute of Microbiology (IOM) Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub on his retirement here at City Campus on Friday.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahamd presided over the ceremony while Deans, Principals, Directors, Chairpersons from different campuses/departments and administrative officers, members of (Syndicate, Academic Council and Advanced Studies & Research Board) were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad lauded the services and contribution of Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub during his directorship especially for the establishment of avian influenza surveillance & reporting system, two high containment (BSL-3) laboratories along with one high containment animal house facility at IOM for pathogens of highly medical and veterinary health significance. He appreciated Prof Dr Tahir lead role for the development of UVAS Institute of Microbiology and imparting best knowledge and practical skills to students regarding disease investigation. He said Prof Dr Tahir is a role model for other teachers and acknowledged his contribution during covid-19 pandemic with tested more-then two million corona samples. He mentioned Prof Dr Tahir performed his duties with full of dedication.

Addressing the audience, Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub thanked UVAS for arranging this ceremony in befitting manner and expressed their best wishes for the progress of UVAS. He also shared his past memories and achievements.

Director Quality Operation Lab Prof Dr Aftab Anjum spoke about the contributions of Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub. He said Prof Dr Tahir served for 35 years in the field of veterinary science as a teacher & researcher of microbiology regarding disease investigations and designing control interventions for infectious disease of livestock and poultry. He said Prof Tahir remained Director in (Quality Operation Lab, Institute of Biochemistry & Biotechnology and Institute of Microbiology). He mentioned Prof Dr Tahir has been a lead investigator on more-then 20 research projects funded by national and international funding agencies worth rupees 400 million. He shared his one of the distinguish achievement regarding the development of surveillance system to guide smart lockdown for the control of SARS-Corona virus during covid-19 pandemic. Prof Dr Aftab said that Prof Dr Tahir supervised 21 PhD and 138 Mphil students.
