UVAS holds seminar on “Detection & Prediction of Emerging Diseases in Poultry”

LAHORE (03-06-24): The Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Veterinary & Animal Science (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with World Poultry Science Association-Pakistan Branch (WPSA) arranged a daylong seminar on “Detection & Prediction of Emerging Diseases in Poultry” at City Campus on Monday.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) presided over the concluding session of the seminar while Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Aneela Zameer Durrani, Chairman Department of Pathology Prof Dr Asim Aslam and number of renowned stakeholders, experts/professionals from poultry industry & different institutions, WPSA officials, faculty members and students from UVAS Department of Pathology attended the seminar.

During seminar experts delivered lectures on different topics related to poultry diseases. Dr Qamar-un-Nisa talked about importance of pathology in disease diagnosis, Prof Dr Amir Ghafoor Bajwa shed light on novel ways of controlling salmonella gallinarum in poultry, Dr Mustafa Kamal spoke about the growth of poultry in the middle of health challenges, Dr Asim Mahmood Khan described about enhancing health with probiotics a strategy against antimicrobial resistance and Dr Hanif Nazir Chuhdary, Dr Kashif Saleemi & Dr Ferhan Farooq spoke about prevention and monitoring, mycotoxicosis and bio security breach an early indicator of disease etc. Dr Nasir Mukhtar spoke about the history, vision & mission of WPSA.

The objectives of the seminar were to explore latest advancement in the field of disease surveillance, detection & prediction, exploring interdisciplinary approaches involving veterinary medicine, review current state of the art technologies & methodologies, identified strategies for improving biosecurity measures in poultry farming with focus on emerging infectious diseases etc.
