UVAS arranged national seminar on “Lumpy Skin Disease”

LAHORE (06-07-22): The Department of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged national seminar on “Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD)” here at City Campus Lahore.

Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Shahid Munir presided over the inaugural session of the seminar while Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Director General (Research) Livestock & Dairy Development Department Dr Abdul Rehman, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Chairperson Department of Veterinary Medicine Dr Jawaria Ali Khan, Dr Muhammad Avais and number of faculty members, professionals, livestock farmers and students attended the seminar.

While addressing the audiences, Prof Dr Shahid Munir lauded the organizer to conduct this national seminar on informative topic for the benefit of livestock farming community. He urged on the development of local vaccine for the control of LSD. He hoped UVAS researchers will play their lead role to curb this deadly disease which hampered in the development of livestock sector in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that lumpy skin disease virus is an emerging threat to the world and it is spreading rapidly in Pakistan. He said that UVAS is playing its role to cope up lumpy skin disease and assisted the government to develop guidelines for the control of this disease. He mentioned UVAS is also providing disease diagnostic and treatment services to the farming community. At the end of seminar Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub stressed on emergency LSD preparedness plan. Dr Jawaria Ali Khan spoke about the introduction and objectives of the seminar.

In the seminar national and international speakers delivered their lectures on socio economic impact, diagnostic tool, clinical management, disease reporting mechanism, world situation, innovative solution for the eradication of lumpy skin disease etc.
