Usman Arshad is a young faculty member in the capacity of lecturer in the Department of Theriogenology. He completed his graduation (DVM; 2010 – 2015) and masters (M.Phil Theriogenology; 2015 – 2017) from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. He earlier served as teaching assistant for two years (2015 – 2017) at Theriogenology Teaching Hospital, Ravi campus, Pattoki. Currently, Usman is working as a Graduate Assistant Research to pursue his PhD (2018 – 2022) in Animal Molecular and Cell Biology (AMCB) Program under the supervision of Dr. José Eduardo P. Santos at University of Florida (UF), USA. During his PhD program, he earned AMCB Grinter Fellow of the Year Award for consecutive three years (2018 – 2021), AMCB Graduate Student Top-Up Award (2020 – 2021), and William C. and Bertha M. Cornett Fellowship (2021 – 2022) from College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Department of Animal Sciences, UF. Besides this, Usman has been conferred 2020 International Student Fellow of the Year from Colorado State University. Usman was actively involved and served as an instructor to train DVM undergraduate students and farmers about Improved Reproductive Management at USDA-USAID funded American Holstein Dairy Farm at Ravi campus, Pattoki. In addition to bovines, Usman has also got an excellent hands-on experience in equine breeding management. Usman has completed 2-years mentorship program to qualify for the Diplomate of American College of Theriogenologists. Usman has keen interest in scientific writing and published 18 peer-reviewed manuscripts in subject specific journals. He also gathers 2022 People’s Choice Award in 3-Minute Dissertation Challenge conducted at American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) conference in Missouri, USA. As a lecturer, he is mainly responsible for undergraduate teaching, clinical case handling, 24/7 extension services, and conducting applied research in dairy cattle nutrition and reproduction. Usman is member of SFT (Society for Theriogenology), ADSA, SARP (Society for Animal Reproduction of Pakistan), and PVMC (Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council). He aims to empower youth by updating and upgrading them with the recent advancements in dairy cattle nutrition and reproduction in dairy cows and buffaloes.
