Biography

Dr. Muhammad Ilyas Riaz has been working as lecturer in Institute of Microbiology University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore since November 02, 2017 to date. He did his D.V.M from UVAS, in 2015 and ends up among the top three of session 2010-15. He has done his M. Phil Microbiology in 2017 and accomplished his PhD in 2022 in Microbiology from IOM UVAS, Lahore. During his PhD, he worked on the construction and evaluation of gene deleted Brucella abortus vaccine in vivo mice model as potential vaccine candidate for the control and mitigation of bovine brucellosis in both indigenous and international settings.

Dr. Ilyas also has one year of teaching, research and disease diagnostic experience in the University Diagnostic Lab, UVAS Lahore where he has served as teaching assistant and engaged in supervision of different lab sections including post mortem, serology, bacteriology, molecular biology and also worked as junior technical manager for the implementation of lab management system ISO 17025:2005 in this first ISO certified veterinary diagnostic lab of Pakistan.

During his professional career, Dr. Ilyas have published 11 research articles in renowned national and international scientific impact factor journals along with presents 07 abstracts in different national and international conferences to showcase his research in the scientific domain. Dr. Ilyas have achieved three professional certifications from the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA), Canada including biorisk management, biological waste management, and biosecurity, and contributing his role as IFBA certified professional by dispensing learned knowledge into students, colleagues, lab staff and fellow researchers for the amelioration of better world by adopting the principle of ‘think globally act locally’.

Dr. Ilyas have been involved in different community and animal welfare projects as a volunteer named Flood Relief Campaign, Animal Birth Control Program, Milk Quality Research & One Health Approach towards Control of Rabies where I actively served as a team member to address these community challenges. He is Future Fellowship Awardee from the Health Security Partners (HSP), USA, and contributing to his role by developing tangible plans to address global health challenges in both local and global settings.
