UVAS holds 1st Clinical Pharmacy Colloquium & Poster competition to showcase Innovation

LAHORE (18-07-2024): The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged first Clinical Pharmacy Colloquium & poster competition at City Campus on Thursday.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Muhammad Younus (DLA.I, T.I) presided over the inaugural session of the Colloquium while Vice-Chancellor Lahore Leads University Prof Dr Nadeem Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Bio-sciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Director (IPS) Dr Tahir Mehmood Khan, Dr Allah Bukhsh Awan and number of faculty members, representatives from pharmaceutical industries, researchers, students from 12 pharmacy institutions across the province and renowned national & international pharmacy experts were physically and virtually attended.

While addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Younus lauded organizers to arrange this colloquium on informative topic to create awareness among public and highlight the significant role of pharmacists in healthcare system for the betterment of society & patients as well.

In the welcoming address Prof Dr Habib emphasized on the fact that Pakistan must excel in the field of clinical pharmacy so that we can provide quality care and improve therapeutic outcomes for acute and chronic diseases. Dr Tahir Mehmood Khan highlighted the need of academia & industry linkages so that UVAS and other public and private institutes can lead problem focus research online with national health priorities. He also appreciated the sponsor and conference participants from academia, industry and emphasis on the need of collaborative research so that we can cater the health care needs of the nation in a professional manner.

In the clinical pharmacy colloquium Prof Dr Muhammad Abdul Hadi (Qatar University), Prof Dr Mirza Rafi Baig (Dean Dubai College of Pharmacy UAE), Prof Dr Amer Hayat Khan (Universiti Sains Malaysia), Prof Dr Shazia Qasim Jamshed (Internal Medical University Malaysia) and Prof Dr Syed Shahzad Hassan (School of Pharmacy Huddersfield University UK) were the international guest speakers and they delivered keynote addresses and sharing cutting-edge research in all aspects of pharmacy while Dr Salaman Khalid from Lahore Collage for Woman University, Dr Waqas Akram from University Central Punjab and Dr Memona Ishtiaque from Lahore Institute of Professional Studies were national speakers and they emphasized on the fact that there is a need to ensure effective patient education and counseling so that we can avoid the chance of drug interaction and adverse events that often lead to poor therapeutic outcomes.

International speakers presented live modern ICT gadgets and over 100 research posters displayed in competition from twelve pharmacy institutions across the province.
