PHD FOOD AND NUTRITION (MORNING & EVENING)
Introduction
Human nutrition deals with human food and how it affects the health and survival of human body, whereas Dietetics is the practical application of scientific understanding of nutrition for better human health. The advancement in modern sciences especially Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Genetics have evolved new areas like Nutrigenomics, Proteomics, Functional Foods, etc. which focuses on metabolism and metabolic pathways and food benefits more than nutrients. Post graduate studies are required to obtain advancements in this specific discipline. Keeping in view the requirement, the department is offering M.Phil. and PhD in Food and Nutrition with following objectives:
- To produce highly trained manpower equipped with modern techniques for research in the discipline of food and nutrition
- Application of these techniques to improve human health
- To find new functional foods with better impact on consumers health
- To understand the chemical composition of traditional foods and their application for the management of different chronic diseases
- To understand the metabolic pathways of different nutrients in the body and to modify them through nutrition to improve life
Scope/Jobs
- Researchers in research organizations to conduct research in nutrition & dietetics
- In Academia like Universities and Colleges for teaching as Lecturers and Assistant Professors
- In different programs of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) like WHO, UNIDO, FAO, UNICEF, etc.
- As Nutritionists and Dietitians in Government hospitals and in private set-up.
Research Priority Areas:
Food Security: Identification, analysis, nutritional significance of novel & un-conventional foods and their incorporation in food formulations.
Bio-active Components & Food for Health: Development of nutraceuticals and functional foods, Trace minerals in health and disease
Public Health Nutrition: Exploratory, constructive and empirical research for improving nutritional status of public health especially vulnerable segments of population
