The Department of Meat Science and Technology, UVAS, plays a crucial role in focused research and training through collaboration with government departments, particularly the Livestock & Dairy Development (L&DD) Department of Punjab and the Punjab Food Authority. The department helped the L&DD department resolve the issue of the usage and female slaughtering of mutton animals. It researched the parameters and helped properly implement the Punjab Slaughter Control Act 1963.

The Department of Meat Science and Technology has recently completed a research project titled  ‘Exploring the potential of indigenous cross breed ruminant (sheep and goat) of Mohmnand and Bajaur districts, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ funded by Market and Employment Project (MEP). The major objective of this project is to provide guidelines for the small ruminant farmers and processors to produce high quality mutton for local and export markets.
