Biography

Bilal Asghar is working as a lecturer in the department of Meat Science and Technology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) since April 2016. He holds the degree of Master of Meat science and technology from University of Bristol, United Kingdom. He graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from UVAS in 2010. After which he worked in the poultry industry for 3 years. He has also done a project on comparison of male fertility using locally made and imported semen extender in grandparent broiler breeders. He went to the England for higher studies in 2013. During his Masters he completed his research on poultry meat inspection for UK broiler production under a Defra (Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs) funded research project on ‘The health and welfare effects of the instigation of the Broiler Directive’ under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Butterworth. He has got various trainings from University of Bristol regarding Animal and Poultry Welfare Officer. After coming back, he has served as a lecturer (Meat Science) in the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan. After serving there for about one year, later he joined University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in April, 2016 as a regular faculty member. He has obtained a certified training on Halal forensic science, audit and compliance from University of Chulalongkorn Thailand.

  • His areas of interest and expertise are Animal welfare, Poultry processing, Poultry Carcass grading and evaluation, Evaluation of Incidence of poultry carcass downgrades, Meat Inspection, Hygiene of meat and meat products, Meat Packaging technologies, Post slaughter technologies for improving meat quality, eating quality and shelf life, Halal meat testing, audit and compliance.
