International Workshop

on

ANIMAL HANDLING AND MODELLING FOR ADVANCE RESEARCH

19th-20th  December, 2018

The department of Physiology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan is  conducting  two  days’  international  workshop  on  “Animal  Handling  and  Modelling  for Advance Research” in collaboration with the University of Cambridge (UK), Salford University (UK),  Chonbuk  National  University  (S.  Korea),  and  University  of  Eastern  Philippines  on December 19-20, 2018. This training will offer an opportunity for the researchers to cross the psychological barrier of handling and manipulating live animals and thus be comfortable in using them for research purposes.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Hands-on training and animal handling for different disease models.
  • To spotlight current internationally accepted standards and procedures in the conduct of animal research

Brief Outline of the offered modules is as follows

Module 1

  • Introduction to lab animals and disease of lab animals
  • Scientific and Ethical Procedures for Lab Animals
  • Animal handling and general procedures
  • Recognition of wellbeing, suffering or pain in the relevant species
  • Anesthesia and Analgesia in Lab animals
  • Humane methods of killing
  • Personal health and safety

Module 2

  • Modern trends and techniques in angiogenesis research
  • Rationale for Clinical study design, delegation log and payments
  • Common surgical procedures
  • Animal models in cancer research

Keynote speakers

Dr. Sohail Ejaz, Cambridge, UK                                                      

Dr. Sohail Ijaz has an experience of 17 years in Academia and Clinical Research. He started his academic career from Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. Currently he is Operational Director/ Clinical Research Lead at Addenbrookes  Hospital,  University  of Cambridge,  UK.  He has 58  publications  with  a total impact factor of 150. He has supervised 11 PhD students and 48 MPhil students.


Prof. Dr. Gerry Amor Camer, UEP, Philippines                           

Prof. Dr. Gerry Amor Camer has experience in research of more than 20 years. He started his career as and academician and researcher from CVM, University of Eastern Philippines in 1991. He  acquired  his  MSc  and  PhD  in  veterinary  medicine  from  University  of  Philippines  and Rakuno-Gakuen   University  respectively.  Currently  he  is  appointed  as  Dean,  College  of veterinary  medicine  at  University  of  Eastern  Philippines.  He  has  numerous  publications  in reputed international journals and has presented his research in various international conferences.


Prof. Dr. Lim Chae-Woong, CNUJ Korea                                          

Prof. Dr. Lim Chae-Woong started his academic career in early 90’s as a postdoctoral fellow at University of Illinois, USA. Since then he has worked as faculty member in Chonbuk National University,  Korea and University of Helsinki, Finland.  He also spend time in University of California-Davis, USA as Visiting Professor. He has a PhD in veterinary pathology and earned a specialty certification from Korean college of veterinary pathologists. He is currently working as Professor in Chonbuk National University, Korean.
