Turkish Scientists trained Pakistani Researchers in a Newfangled Technology to produce and evaluate Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccin

 

A seven day’s training workshop on “Evaluation of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus Vaccine” was organized by University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore (UVAS) under a project ‘Establishment of Center for Biologics Production (TCBP-FMD)’. During this training program Scientists from SAP (FMD) Institute, Ankara Turkey including Dr. Nedret Celik, Dr. Hidayat Bozoglu, Dr. Muslum Kaan Arichi, Dr. Pelin Tuncer Goktuna trained the local scientist for production and evaluation of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) Vaccine using mamalian cell suspension culture technology. This technology has not been previously used in Pakistan for mass scale procuctions. Pakistani scientists also performed successful tests for FMDV vaccine matching, estimation of 146S protein of the vaccine virus, screening of cell lines and serum for BVD and Mycoplasma. Previously, this kind of tests were used to be outsourced from abroad. The delegate also visited UVAS Patoki Campus where they visited the newly built building for Biologics Production. There is an ongoing cooperation between the ministries of Pakistan and Turkey to increase the capacity of diagnosis of FMD, to exchange data on circulating viruses and to help vaccine production in Punjab, Pakistan. Turkish delegate extends their full coperations on behalf of their government during the meetings with the Secretary Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Punjab, Mr. Nasim Saddiq and the Vice Chancellor (UVAS) Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha.
