Biography

Prof. Dr. Tahir Yaqub is a Senior Member of the UVAS, has over 25-years scientific experience for controlling infectious disease of livestock including Influenza viruses. Prior to working at UVAS, Dr. Tahir was Research Officer at the Livestock Production and Research Institute, Bahadurnagar Okara. While at UVAS, Dr. Tahir completed his Master’s Degree and PhD from Institute of Microbiology. He did postdoc from Institute of Public Health UK. He has a DVM background. Dr. Yaqub’s research interests include investigating the biological health risk agents of public and animal health.  Prof. Yaqub has been a lead investigator and coordinator of a number of research projects funded by national and international funding agencies. He also established avian influenza surveillance and reporting system in Pakistan and his laboratory holds a large depository of avian influenza field strains collected over 10 years from range of avian species. His laboratory has postgraduate-students with expertise in molecular biology, virology, microbiology, cell culture, and vaccinology and serves as a hub for training on disease diagnostics to field veterinarians in close collaboration with the Animal Disease Reporting and Surveillance Directorate of Pakistan. Currently he is investigating prevalence and control of zoonotic diseases of public health importance.
