Biography

Dr Syed Qasim Raza is working as Assistant Professor in the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. He completed his Bachelors from Punjab University, Lahore and earned his Master in Biochemistry from University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi. He worked as Research Associate with Prof. Dr SM Saqlan Naqvi on the research project of Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) over three years. He moved to France for his MS and PhD. In France, He did MS in “Structure, Functional Genomics and Proteomics” from department of biochemistry, University of Paris Diderot, France. After completion of MS, He got opportunity to do his PhD under the direction of Prof. Dr. Guido Kroemer (renowned scientist in the field of Cell Death) in his lab INSERM U848. During his PhD, he worked on new promising project “Molecular Characterization of Entosis” under the supervision of Dr. Jean-Luc Perfettini. After Completions of his PhD, he was awarded the INSERM post-doctoral fellowship and he did his post-PhD research work in Prof. Eric Duetch lab (INSERM U1030), Institute Gustave Roussy, France. Prior to his joining in UVAS, he has served as Assistant Professor in Institute of Research and Consulting, King Faisal University Saudi Arabia.

Research Experties and Area of Interest

His main area of research is Entosis, a non-apoptotic cell death process of live internalized cell inside the host/cannibal cell. He has published part of his research work on the characterization of HIV-1 envelope mediated apoptotic signaling pathways, p53 binding protein-1 (53BP1) and the checkpoint kinases 1 and 2 (CHK1 and CHK2) modulate TP53-dependent activation of the mitochondrial pathways
During his years of research at different institutes and with different personnel, he believed on that collaboration is the major part of scientific success and you can do much more than your capacity. These were the techniques such as; Confocal Microscopy, FACS, Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry, Animal Cell Cultures, Plant Tissue Culture, Cell Death Assays, Cloning and Transfection, Bioinformatics Tools, Transformation, PCR, Western Blot, Time Lapse Video Microscopy and Irradiation on which he has worked over the period of time. His academic and research training has provided him with a comprehensive and diverse background in a wide variety of scientific disciplines including biochemistry, oncology, cell biology and molecular biology
