General Instructions for Postgraduate Students

All postgraduates’ student after enrollment must get their respective students’ copy of    the enrolment form from DAS. Thereafter, the said copy is to be shown to the concerned teacher (s) offering the course (s) in order to include their names in the attendance register being maintained by the teacher.

    1. A student who is enrolled for a course shall not be allowed, to add a new course or substitute a course for another after the expiry of twenty days from the commencement of the semester, but he may be permitted, to drop a course within thirty days. In case a student gives up a course without such permission or intimation, he shall be deemed to have failed in that course. 
    2. Ordinarily a full time student shall not be enrolled for more than 16 and less than 10 credits in a semester except for the last semester.
    3. At the end of 1st semester, a student must obtain a GPA of 2.0 (M. Phil) and3.0 (Ph.D) moreover, at the end of 2nd semester, a student must obtain aCGPA of 2.0 (M. Phil) and 3.0 (Ph.D).
    4. At the end of 2nd semester student must also be passed 50% of the courses takes by him/ her.
    5. For the award of the degree, a student must obtain CGPA at least 2.50 (M. Phil) and 3.0 (Ph.D)
    6. Submission of Course Work Program and constitution of their Supervisory committee is due at the end of 2nd semester
    7. Submission of Synopsis to the Board of studies is due at the end of 3rd semester.
    8. Submission of semifinal/Final Thesis is due during the 4th (Regular) Semester.
    9. A course can be repeated Three times, at the most.
    10. First repetition will be on student’s will.
    11. For 2nd repetition prior permission of Director Advanced Studies is essential
    12. For 3rd repetition, permission of the Director Advanced Studies will have to be sought and the applicant will have to justify the repetitions.

    1. Research & Thesis is allowed to enroll from 3rd semester onward.
    2. Synopsis defense seminar in 3rd  semester
    3. Thesis defense seminar in 4th semester 

Ph.D

    1. Oral & Written Comprehensive can be enrolled in same semester after course work completion.
    2. There will be no “D” Grade for the deficiency courses & Students will be marked A, B, C and F.
    3. Semi-final thesis should be submitted to Director Advanced Studies within schedule date.
    4. The supervisory committee can only be changed with soiled reason. The changed supervisory committee will be proposed by the BOS & Dean of the respective faculty in consultation with Director ORIC who will recommended the changed committee to be approved by ASRB.
    5. The M. Phil student has to submit the proof of his/her research paper submitted for publishing in an HEC approved journal/ JVAS prior to the declaration of the result.
    6. Publishing of scientific findings/Research of students of M. Phil in the “Urdu- Science Magazine” will be considered equivalent to their extension paper.
    7. If the student may alike to discontinue his/her studies for extended period of time (more than one semester) he / she shall resume his/her studies within five years. However, after rejoining he/she has to fulfill the minimum residential period for the degree or pay double fee of that minimum residential period at the new fee structure rate.
    8. No student will be allowed to conduct research outside the University Campus without prior permission of the Chairman of the Department and the Dean of the Faculty Concerned.
    9. Director Advanced Studies is empowered to extend the date of final submission of the theses by two weeks for those students who get their semi-final theses      approved /scrutinized by the Directorate of Advanced Studies.
    10. Duration of the question paper for Written Comprehensive Examination would be five hours and the student shall be required to attempt five questions out of seven in each paper.
