Rabies Vaccination Camp

The Vets Care Club of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Institute of Public Health (IPH) and Novartis organized a Rabies Vaccination Camp at university’s Medicine/Outdoor lab on Monday. Over 300 students were vaccinated against Rabies.

Chairperson Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Aneela Durrani said that Rabies is fetal disease and it should be eliminated through proper vaccination. She explained that every year hundreds of people become prey to rabies’ death in Sub-urbs. Dr. Aneela urged the government machinery to launch comprehensive campaign at grass roots level like polio vaccination campaign. She was addressing a seminar on “The Awareness and Importance of Anti-Rabies Vaccine” organized by the Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery in collaboration with Novartis and IPH at university’s Seminar Hall on Monday. She also advised the experts to identify the causes and reasons of spread of Rabies and its prevention and cure.

 Dr. Zarfishan Tahir, Bacteriologist- Govt. of Punjab (IPH) high-lighted the importance of Pre-Exposure Rabies Vaccination and emphasized on Intradermal Regimen which proves to be quite cost-effective. She gave a thorough over-view of “Rabies – The Disease and Prevention”.

Dr. Nauman, Dr. Junaid and Dr. Usman from Vet Care Club – UVAS,  Dr. Zunaira Akhter (Ghazi Brothers) and Novartis IHC Executive, Muhammad Husnain Jamal, also spoke at the event.

Followed by the Seminar, An Awareness walk, within the premises, was organized by all the authorities which ended up  at the Vaccination Camp.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Dean Faculty of Bio Sciences UVAS inaugurated the Rabies Vaccination Camp. He was given a short briefing from the organizers (Vets Care Club) and Novartis associates. Follow-up doses would be inoculated in the month of October by a week’s interval.
