Biography

Prof. Dr Rana did his PhD in Marketing from Hull University Business School (HUBS), University of Hull, England, UK. His PhD is on consumer alienation towards Halal. His main research interests include ethnic marketing, food marketing and Islamic marketing. Being an academic, he has tutored the marketing modules to different levels and worked as Research Assistant at HUBS, UK till November 2013.  
Prof. Dr Rana holds MBA degree and PGD (Post Graduate Diploma) from IBA, University of the Punjab. His previous qualification includes DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) and MSc. (Hons.) from UVAS, Lahore. He joined this university in 2004 and was awarded as Best faculty member for the year 2008 at UVAS, Lahore. He secured FFC (Fauji Fertilizer Company) merit-based scholarship for his MBA studies. He has around 20 research papers in ABS ranked and HEC recognized journals on his credit. Notably, he has published in British Food Journal (BFJ), Studies in Higher Education, International Journal of social entrepreneurship and innovation, JAPS, PVJ etc. Some of his research work has been published as a couple of books from a publishing house of Germany. He has attended and presented his research work in UK, Malaysia, Turkey, UAE, Germany and Pakistan in more than 10 international conferences.
At UVAS, some of notable roles of Prof. Dr Rana can be summarized as the first program coordinator of MBA (Life Sciences), as Chief Editor University magazine “Vision” and as joint secretary/General secretary ASA (Academic staff Association) and Chairman Sports Board and a freelancer for English newspapers.
Prof. Dr Rana has worked hard to reposition the department as UVAS Business School and started its accreditation process from NBEAC (National Business Education Accreditation Council) of HEC. He played a significant role in inculcating the research culture by bringing funding from industry and other donor agencies. Thus, he has been serving as founding Director of CAPRIL (Center for Applied Policy Research in Livestock and Poultry) a USAID-PEEP Funded project since 2015. Last year, he got another development project from Govt. L&DD Department to establish a center named as Export Facilitation Center for Livestock and Poultry (EFCLP) at UVAS Business School and has been serving as its founding Project Director. He also provides his professional consultancy services to the private meat industry of Pakistan and is on the panel of consultants in an Australian/American certifying body (SMIS-AGS) working in Pakistan. He is also offering his services as a reviewer to some local and international Marketing/Business journals.

  • Won a project worth of Rs. 60 million from Government of Punjab for establishing “Export facilitation Centre for Livestock and Poultry (EFCLP) at UVAS Lahore”.
  • Won, and leading as founding director, a USAID-PEEP funded project for establishing “Centre for Applied Policy Research in Livestock (CAPRIL)” worth Rs. 7.4 million.
  • Secured two research projects, worth of Rs. 1.6 million from PPA (Pakistan Poultry Association) for conducting market studies. I have completed two of these projects.
  • Completed a project entitled “An empirical investigation of consumer alienation towards Broiler meat in Punjab” with funding of Rs. 0.375 million.
  • Completed a project entitled “To develop data base for broiler farmers of Punjab and KPK” with funding of Rs. 0.6 million.
  • Completed a project entitled “Study of Economic Activity in Livestock Markets of Lahore on Eid ul Azha 2016” worth Rs 99,000 from UVAS, Lahore.
