Biography

M. Afzal Rashid has been with UVAS since 2012, and currently working as an Assistant Professor (TTS) in the Department of Animal Nutrition. He holds a DVM (1999-2003: UVAS Lahore) and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition (2013: UVAS-Lahore). Under the HEC IRSIP fellowship program, he spent around 10 months in SDSU and completed experiments on Holstein calves. His area of interest is calf nutrition and management with an emphasis on early weaning and rumen development in Buffalo and cattle calves; as well as evaluation of alternative feed resources to reduce the cost of feeding in dairy animals and fattening. His interest in small ruminant has allowed him to work on growth rates of fattening lambs and bucks. He has been involved in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate theory and practical classes. He is involved in the establishment of modern Nutrition Laboratory in Pattoki. Apart from his academic activities, he is also engaged in extension work and is working with Nutrition Focus Group (ASLP), NAP and conducted several farmer training programs.

M. A. Rashid has authored 15 refereed publications, 1 extension booklet, 2 popular press publications, won 04 research grants including 05 as PI and 6 as Co-PI, supervised (17 M.Phil. students, one Ph.D.) and currently supervising 7 M.Phil. and 03 Ph.D. scholars, participated in several international, national conferences, workshops over 12 as a resource person.
