Biography

Dr. Kashif Nauman is serving as Assistant Professor in the Department of Meat Science and Technology, UVAS, and holds a DVM, M.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Veterinary Microbiology from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. In 2012, he obtained an HEC overseas scholarship to pursue his Ph.D. studies at the Institute of Meat Hygiene, Meat Technology, and Food Sciences, University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, Austria. Before joining UVAS, he served in the export Meat Industry as a Quality Controller for beef and mutton lines. In 2009, he joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Meat Science and Technology. During his Ph.D. studies, he has published his scientific work in renowned peer-reviewed journals and presented it at many international conferences in Germany, Austria, Spain, Slovakia, Czech Republic, France, Denmark, and Italy. As a Resource Person, he presented meat and related issues in many national workshops and training arranged by TDAP, L&DDD, USAID, and UVAS. He was selected for training in Meat Processing by Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company (PAMCO) in Mashhad Meat Industrial Complex (MMIC) Mashhad, Iran, in 2011. He also got training from Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority and Dubai Municipality (Abattoir Section) on Meat Quality and Inspection systems in 2009.
In his Ph.D. research work, he worked on the development of new beef products which are safe in local Pakistani high-temperature environment, application of new no thermal technologies for making packaging safe and clean, conversion of low-cost meat into value-added products, Risk assessment of beef and beef products supply chain, the prevalence of different meat borne zoonotic diseases, restructured meat technologies, bush meat consumption patterns in Pakistan and related risks. His work also includes the application of various natural acids on packaging material to enhance shelf life and quantify microbial by-products in a meat environment.
He recently obtained an Associate Fellowship from Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom. He is a member of the North American Meat Association, International Association of Food Protection, and Österreichische Gesellschaft der Tierärztinnen und Tierärzte. He was a Member Board of Directors of PAMCO up to 2011.
