LUMS Pro-Chancellor Syed Babar Ali visits UVAS
LAHORE (17-03-17): LUMS Pro-Chancellor Syed Babar Ali visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) Lahore and held a detailed meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and senior professors, including Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Prof Dr Aleem Bhatti. The meeting discussed the present condition of livestock sector in Pakistan and the efforts how to further develop the sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Babar said that a survey should be conducted to explore international market demands and standards for enhancing meat export and find out impediments involve in the process. He called for arranging foreign visits of livestock professionals to study advanced farming systems/ models, which can be replicated in Pakistan.
He said that UVAS should initiate a ‘meal programme’ to solve the malnutrition issues in Pakistan. He suggested that an entrepreneur competition of students should be started to encourage and facilitate them to start their own businesses. He appreciated the UVAS services for the welfare and benefit of farming community.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that there was need for initiating a school milk & egg programme, in which an egg and a glass of milk a day should be given to schoolchildren to attract them to schools and improve their health, consequently solving the issue of malnutrition as well as providing market to livestock, dairy and poultry farmers for their prosperity and profitability.
Earlier, Prof Pasha briefed the meeting on the UVAS academic, research, extension services, training programmes and developments projects etc.
