UVAS organised meeting with delegation on WHO Mission on Emerging Pathogens Laboratory Network
LAHORE, (16-03-17): Delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore and held meeting of WHO Mission on Emerging Pathogens Laboratory Network at city campus Lahore here on Thursday.
The delegation comprising of Team Lead Emerging and Epidemic Zoonotic Diseases (EZD) Department of Pandemic and Epidemic Diseases (PED) Dr Pierre Formentry, Rosenna Jaffries and Dr Faheem Tahir, held a detailed meeting with Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Masood Rabbani and other senior faculty members of UVAS. They discussed on bio-safety, readiness and response capacity of UVAS lab dealing with pathogens. The delegation wanted to assess the readiness response capacity and biosafety compliance of UVAS labs.
Prof Dr Masood Rabbani briefed delegation about the specific capacities of UVAS labs in diagnoses of pathogens, human resources in biosafety and biosecurity, Moreover research projects won by the faculty on competitive basis for resolving the problems of livestock, poultry diseases and for zoonotically important disease. Earlier, Prof Dr Masood Rabbani also briefed the delegation on the UVAS academic, research, extension services and training programmes. The delegations visited various department and labs of UVAS along with Prof Dr Tahir Yaqub and Prof Dr Irshad Hussain.
