UVAS holds 15th Annual Sports Day

LAHORE (08-12-17): The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore organised its 15th Annual Sports in its City Campus Sports Ground.
Director Big Bird Dr Abdul Kareem Bhatti along with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated sports contests in the morning while UVAS Retired Professor of Pharmacology Dr Muhammad Sabir was chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony in the night. Students from the City Campus, Ravi Campus Pattoki, College of Veterinary and Animal Science Jhang and Khan Bahadar Choudhry Mushtaq Ahmed College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Narowal participated in sports fixtures which continued till late night.
Addressing the inaugural session, Dr Abdul Kareem Bhatti said that UVAS was progressing day by day through its quality of education, research and extension services. He also lauded the discipline of UVAS especially in the selection of new students on sports basis for various degree programmes in a transparent manner and also its vital role in the development of veterinary profession under a competent leadership. He said that UVAS is a historical unique institution because of its cultural diversity as its students intake is from across the country. He also shared his past experiences as a student of UVAS.
In the concluding ceremony, Prof Dr Muhammad Sabir said that sports and extra-curricular activities were as important for students as the curricular activities. He lauded the role of the UVAS in promoting extra-curriculum healthy activities and traditions for the capacity building of the students.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha presented the vote of thanks and lauded the performance of students, who actively participated in the sports activities and efforts of organizers for successfully conducting the sports day. He said for the promotion of sports activities UVAS is establishing a sports complex at Ravi Campus Pattoki while a gymnasium and a swimming pool on City Campus Lahore. 
The final day sports contests included final races of various lengths for boys and girls, three-leg race, javelin throw, shot put, long jump, triple jump, discus throw, tug of war, chaati race, martial art presentation/gymnastic show, musical chair etc.
DVM student Hamza Aslam among male students and MPhil student Sehrish Saleem among the girls were declared the best/fastest athletes of the UVAS. Ahmad Rasool from Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology won the title of “Mr UVAS” while among DVM 3rd year students in Male category while MPhil & PhD students in female category won general trophies with got equal 124,124 points. The Faculty of Veterinary Science (FVS) team won tug-of-war contest.
Prof Dr Muhammad Sabir distributed trophies and medals among the winners of all contests. 
Earlier, Director Sports Rana Amjad Iqbal described the achievements of the UVAS players in various sports competitions in 2016-17 including cricket, football, volleyball, table tennis, handball, kabaddi, badminton, karate, lawn tennis, rugby, chess, wrestling, weightlifting and bodybuilding, etc. while Chairman Sports Board Rana Muhammad Ayub was also present.
