Manager ABS Global USA visits UVAS
LAHORE (23-08-17): Marc Michielsen, International Distributor & Manager American Breeders Service (ABS) Global USA, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, called on Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and held a meeting with Theriogenology experts.
The Vice-Chancellor briefed the delegation on the UVAS academic, research, extension services, reproduction, clinical and lab facilities for small and large animals, short term dairy training programmes, etc. He called for adopting different strategies for local farmers having local breeds and progressive farmers keeping exotic animals.
He said that milk production cost is a major issue for local farmers and affecting its profitability. The delegate said that they are already working on Indian bovine breed improvement. The vice-Chancellor emphasized that buffalo is an important animal of Pakistan and source of livelihood and nutrition for small and landless farmers, so it is direly needed to work on the development of local breeds for the profitability of the poor farming community.
The participants of the meeting discussed various aspects related to genetics management system, breeding services and techniques, embryology and genetics improvement of bovine and human resource development, etc.
Marc Michielsen wanted to make collaboration with UVAS especially in the areas of dairy animal embryology and genetics improvement of bovine.
On the occasion, UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Chairman Department of Theriogenology Dr Amjad Riaz and Dr Waseem Shoukat attended meeting.
